Microstress is more dangerous!

When we think about workplace stress, we usually picture the obvious causes such as impossible deadlines, difficult conversations with our boss or exhausting long working hours. But what most of us often miss is the exhaustion we feel after an ordinary day at work where nothing major has happened. This exhaustion rarely stems from one major source. It comes from a number of small stressors which we barely notice. A random work-related email notification that pops up when you are about to doze off at night, a meeting where your idea is dismissed without discussion, a colleague who constantly asks for “quick favours” that distracts you or a message from your manager that simply says, “Can we talk?” without further information.
